This is the collection made for the modern antiquer, anyone who loves a rare find and also appreciates sturdy, minimalist furniture. We love this collection because it visibly carries the traditions behind its pieces, all of which translate easily and beautifully into the modern home. Today we bring you a mix of one-of-a-kind antiques made over 100 years ago, alongside some vintage-inspired produced items crafted with traditional techniques. Each piece is made using mortise and tenon joinery, which has been used for thousands of years globally by woodworkers, and which is known for being among the strongest of joints. Despite its ancient history, the level of precision required in making this joint means that it’s no easy feat, and the unique challenge behind making each item shows in a charming, particular way. In other words, there really are no two alike. Our vintage-inspired items are made using reclaimed vintage elmwood and cedar, and the antiques’ age-marked distinctive patina on the wood stands out beautifully.
We’re so pleased to release this collection––one, because we love it, and two, because it feels more than fitting to carry pieces that reflect the origins of our name. Saffron + Poe is a reference to ancient international trade and the Silk Road, a stretch of land essential to the network of trade routes that carried goods from China all the way through Eurasia to the Mediterranean Sea and back. Our name was inspired by two of the most coveted luxuries that civilizations have traveled to acquire over the ages: Saffron was widely cherished for its culinary offerings and its rich golden hue used as dye for textiles, and Poe is Burmese for silk.
Have a look at this new collection and see why we can’t get enough of it. As always, we’d love to see you in the shop. And if you can’t make it in, enjoy further perusal in the Shop tab.
