STORY + DESCRIPTION
Intricate yet with an elegantly simple weave, the woven Tenganan basket makes a stunning and functional accent piece. They are perfect for storing magazines + accessories, as a centerpiece on a dining table, or as a fruit and vegetable basket on your kitchen counter!
Handwoven in the village of Tenganan, Bali, this basket is crafted from natural Ata reed, a fast-growing vine known for its strength and durability. The process begins by carefully splitting the reed into fine strands, which are then intricately woven by skilled artisans—a single piece can take up to a month to complete. Once woven, each basket is boiled and sun-dried for several days before being gently smoked over coconut husks. This final step strengthens the fibers, enhances their warm, golden hue, and adds a subtle, earthy scent. The result is a beautifully crafted piece that reflects generations of tradition, patience, and artistry.
What are second quality pieces?
Seconds are pieces of furniture or accessories that don't quite pass our rigorous quality control standards but are still structurally sound - they're what we like to call nearly perfect. Some examples of imperfections are marks and scuffs, scratches on leather, or inconsistency in color. The best part? These pieces are offered from 20% - 50% off regular prices!
All seconds items are final sale. No coupon codes or trade discounts can be applied. Flat rate delivery will be available, or store pick up at our Mill Valley location (because we'd love to say hi!).
