Pillow styling is an important part of creating a thoughtful, collected home, adding layers of texture and storied textiles to any space. Balancing textures, colors, shapes, and patterns makes pillow styling something of an art form and a science, so we're sharing our best tips to help you style throw pillows like a seasoned pro.

STEP ONE : CURATE YOUR COLLECTION
Whether you're rearranging with the old, or investing in the new, gather up your favorites so that you know what you're working with. Make sure your collection has an interchangeable color palette, using a variety of textures, patterns, shapes and sizes. Our go-to's usually involve a healthy mix of vintage, modern, and neutral (us? shocking!) styles with a good range in size and shape.
STEP TWO : PICK AN “ANCHOR PILLOW"
It's time to create that base! If you're styling a sofa, daybed, or something in that family, use your largest pillows first on each end and work your way towards the center of the sofa using your smaller pillows. If you're styling a bed, apply that same concept and work from largest to smallest, from the base of the headboard onward (as pictured above!).
STEP THREE : ADD IN PATTERN, TEXTURE and SHAPE
Let the fun begin! Add in some variety and play around with patterns, textures, shapes and color ways as you layer onto that base. Don't be afraid to try new things - you may be surprised as to what works and what doesn't! The best thing about reorganizing textiles in the home is that nothing is permanent and you can always change things up.
STEP FOUR : STYLE THE REST OF YOUR SPACE
Now for those final touches! Once you've found the sweet spot with your pillow line up, it's time to freshen up the rest of your newly styled space. Layer in a throw blanket, a beloved candle, some seasonal florals, or whatever else is calling your name.
STEP FIVE : RELAX AND ENJOY
In what we believe to be the most important step… Sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor. It may seem small, but we truly believe in the power of interiors and how a simple tweak to the look and feel of a room can make everything just a little bit sweeter. Soak it all in and be sure to mix things up again once your space calls for another refresh!
