STORY + DESCRIPTION
Like any great lead in a film, there is always a supporting role to lift them up into the spotlight, which is why we’ve created the Tenganan Side Basket to be the perfect sidekick to our director’s chair. Built to stow all your set day essentials; notepad, pen, computer or iPad, water bottle and snacks. Stunning woven details, a subtle shape, and the perfect size, this side basket is the ideal co-star to your director’s chair.
Handwoven in the village of Tenganan, Bali, this basket is crafted from natural Ata reed, a fast-growing vine known for its strength and durability. The process begins by carefully splitting the reed into fine strands, which are then intricately woven by skilled artisans—a single piece can take up to a month to complete. Once woven, each basket is boiled and sun-dried for several days before being gently smoked over coconut husks. This final step strengthens the fibers, enhances their warm, golden hue, and adds a subtle, earthy scent. The result is a beautifully crafted piece that reflects generations of tradition, patience, and artistry.
We collaborated with directors Bryce Dallas Howard and Claire Thomas to design a capsule collection of director’s chairs with profits going toward FREE THE WORK, a non-profit organization committed to making equity actionable in media -- made for maximum comfort, storage, and style. These chairs are just as stylish on set as they are outdoors or inside the home.

ABOUT OUR DIRECTOR'S CHAIR COLLECTION
The capsule collection includes 50 artisanal chairs with profits going toward FREE THE WORK, a non-profit organization committed to making equity actionable in media and to creating opportunities for a global workforce of underrepresented creators behind the lens in TV, film, and marketing.
“As a director and teacher who works with emerging artists, I’ve seen how access – in terms of visibility, opportunity, and connections – is the greatest hurdle for artists today. Luckily, organizations like FREE THE WORK are actually moving the needle forward when it comes to lowering those barriers for directors and creators. Its initiatives are the actionable solutions that our entertainment industry desperately needs right now.” - Bryce Dallas Howard

ABOUT FREE THE WORK
FREE THE WORK is a non-profit organization committed to making equity actionable in media and to creating opportunities for a global workforce of underrepresented creators: people of color, the LGBTQIA+ community, women, creators with disabilities, veterans, and all other intersections of identity that have been statistically underrepresented behind the lens in TV, film, and marketing. Our organization strives to be the most innovative, effective, and action-driven resource possible until industry-wide equality becomes a reality. We accomplish this goal through our FREE THE WORK pledge, global talent database, community, DEI guidance, impact & insights reporting, and educational tools that help creators to demystify the media industries. FREE THE WORK exists to empower a creative revolution led by the world’s underrepresented creators.
