Uzumati Ceramics

If you read our last blog post, you’ll know that Jaclyn’s work with Uzumati Ceramics is one of our favorite things! Jaclyn is a fabulous female business owner who found her craft four years ago in a beginners throwing class. If this doesn’t sound unbelievable yet, get this: six months later she quit her full time job to pursue a career in ceramics and launch Uzumati.

Her gift is remarkable and undeniable. It takes one look at one of her pieces to understand what we mean by this. The quality she delivers at all times is top notch, her work boasting simple and stunning reproductions of gorgeous natural settings (specifically Yosemite, Joshua Tree and the High Desert) undoubtedly inspired by her reverence for the earth and her penchant for trekking.

Moreover, she is a member of 1% Percent for the Planet, a global movement of brands that donate one percent of their sales back to the environment. The idea is that since we source from the planet, it’s only natural to give back. Another thing that is very telling about her practices as a maker and business owner is that she works in small batches, a recognized sustainable choice that cuts back on production waste. Jaclyn hand throws, hand carves and hand glazes every single long lasting piece, which we think is pretty wonderful.

We are enormously thrilled to carry her ceramics in our shop, and we’re so excited to finally share our Uzumati x Saffron + Poe candle collaboration! We selected and named the scents of each one together––Bali Moon got its name because the Teakwood scent immediately reminded us of Bali, and the Coastal Woods scent reminded us of the wooded California coast where we live.

We couldn’t be happier with how they turned out. Just like all of Jaclyn’s work, they are long lasting durable creations that will enjoy a long life in any home. They are also all made with 100 percent coconut wax, a raw cotton wick and premium essential and fragrance oils. Since the candles are set in (custom) ceramic vessels, once they’re all burned out a beautiful tumbler remains. Giftable, sustainable, delectable.

Welcome to the family, Jaclyn!
